Travel with Your Dog to the San Francisco Bay Area

May 11, 2009

You’ve been yearning to see the Golden Gate Bridge ever since you saw your first Rice a Roni commercial. Problem is, you’re worried that your dog won’t share your excitement about the City by the Bay. Here are a few tips to make sure your dog enjoys your vacation as much as you do.

1. Choose a pet-friendly hotel.

There is a big difference between a pet-friendly hoteland a hotel that allows pets. A pet-friendly hotel actually goes out of the way to make sure that your dog’s experience is as good as your own. Keep an eye out for hotels that charge a special pet fee, which can increase your room rate by as much as fifty to one hundred dollars.

2. Know your dog parks.
A walk around a concrete block is not your dog’s idea of a perfect vacation. Use a resource like SF Dog Parks to find the dog park closest to your hotel.

3. Help your dog feel at home.
When you arrive at your hotel room, make sure to unpack a few familiar items to help your dog adjust to the new digs. Also, try not to leave your dog in the hotel room for lengthy blocks of time, especially if your pet is not used to being alone.
